200 buses, 300 trucks to be added shortly to Corporation fleet: Sunil
Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Sharma today said that for the revival of Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation 200 luxury buses and 300 trucks would be added to the Corporation shortly. Addressing delegates conference of JKSRTC Workers Union, the Transport Minister said that these buses would be procured on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, adding that 100 buses in 1st phase would be added to the Corporation fleet soon for providing hassle free transport facility to the commuters of the State. The Minister said that Government is committed to provide better transport facility through JKSRTC to the people, adding that in this regard several innovative steps are being taken to revitalize the Corporation assets for making them more vibrant and commercial. The Minister said that welfare of the Corporation employees is also priority of the Government. He announced several sops in favour of the employees. He said that Rs. 6000 per month upto 5 years besides lump-sum amount of Rs. 50000 would be provided by the Corporation to the next of kin of deceased employee. He said a financial assistance of Rs. One lakh would be given to the employee for treatment who has chronic disease while as Rs. 50,000 to the Corporation employee who is injured in an accident. He said the Corporation would also provide a financial assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh to the employees for construction and renovation of residential houses. The Minister said that enhancement of DA in favour of Corporation employees is under active consideration of the Government, adding that the consolidated employees of the Corporation would be regularized shortly. The Minister said that the Corporation would also introduce welfare scheme for workers under which an employee would get Rs. 10 lakh in case of any mishap. The Minister called upon the employees of the Corporation to work with zeal and dedication for making the Corporation profitable and people-friendly. On the occasion, the Minister also unveiled the flag and annual activity report and Identity Card of the JKSRTC Union. Secretary Transport, R. K. Bhagat, Special Secretary Transport, Itrat Hussain Rafaqee and Managing Director JKSRTC, G. A. Sofi also addressed the conference and highlighted the measures taken by the Corporation for making it more profitable. The Chairman, JKSRTC Workers Union in his welcome address assured the Minister of full cooperation of the employees for making the organization more vibrant and commercial. He also presented mementos to the Minister and other dignitaries on the occasion.
