Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the department in Kashmir division. The meeting was attended by Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr Sameer Mattoo, CMOs, BMOs, Medical Superintendents, senior staff at DHSK among other officers of the Health Department. Taking a detailed review of the functioning of District Hospitals, Sub District Hospitals, Primary Health Centers and Community Health Centers, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to focus on the welfare of the patient by ensuring punctuality and proper sanitation in the institutes. Mr Bhagat said that a number of District Hospitals, SDH, PHC were upgraded in the State and all steps will be taken to provide adequate staff in these health institutions. He called upon the CMOs and Medical Superintendents to monitor the functioning of the health institutes and seek requisite feedback regarding implementation of various schemes. Stressing on effective implementation of the Government sponsored health schemes, the Minister said that that benefits of these schemes should reach the deserving and needy patients. He called upon the medical fraternity to set new benchmarks to improve the quality of healthcare in the health institutions. Earlier, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr Sameer Mattoo informed the minister about the patients treated at various hospitals besides surgeries, deliveries, ultrasound, X Rays conducted during the financial year 2015-16. He also gave a detailed presentation of the health scenario at peripheral level and highlighted the requirements of the department. Meanwhile, Health Minister inaugurated a blood bank at GB Pant Children Hospital having a capacity of 400 units of blood. The hospital, which was badly affected in 2014 floods, got this high-tech Blood Bank on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day. Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital, Dr Shafqat Khan briefed the Minister about the functioning of the Hospital. He informed that the hospital caters to 800 to 1,000 patients in its OPD every day, of these, 70 to 80 patients are admitted to the hospital. Earlier, Health Minster attended a function held at Government Medical College, Srinagar to mark the World Hemophilia Day. The function was attended by Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar, Dr Kaiser Ahmad, HoDs of various departments, senior faculty members, students and hemophilia patients.
