Led by BJP Mahila Morcha State President Purnima Sharma, hundreds of women activists of the morcha took out a rally on scooties, motorcycles and in cars to spread the message of “Yaad karo Qurbani”, through fortnight programmes being undertaken to celebrate the 70th Independence Day under “Azaadi 70”.
The rally was flagged off by Bharatiya Janata Party MLC Ajatshatru Singh, which started from outside Raj Bhawan and after passing through Panjtirthi, Dhounthali, Jain Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and City Chowk, finally culminated outside Ranbireshwar Temple at Shalimar Road.
Ajatshatru Singh, while appreciating the efforts of the Mahila Morcha in coming forward to reach out the public to remind the supreme sacrifices of the patriots who left the comforts of life and jumped into the freedom struggle, said that every section of the society should contribute in spreading the message of the significance of Independence. He said that through the theme of “Yaad karo Qurbani”, these activists are on roads to remind the people that the country achieved freedom after long struggle and we should not forget our great Indians who are not with us but gave us freedom.
Purnima Sharma said that the BJP’s fortnight programmes through different events are meant to take the present generation in the past when our country was treated as slave and thousands of Indians laid down their lives so that their motherland is freed from the British rule. The women also played very important role in the freedom struggle and we salute them. Although we celebrate Independence Day every year but it should not be confined to a ceremony of just hoisting tricolor on 15th August. We should not forget that when we feel pride in claiming that each one of us is living in an independent country, it becomes our duty to also educate the present generation about the events related to the freedom struggle. The BJP has chalked out a variety of programmes and the Mahila Morcha is taking every event as an important part of the country’s history of sacrifices. In this context, the slogan of “Yaad karo Qurbani” is being highlighted so that every Indian citizen when really goes through a patriotic song which has lines of this slogan gets induced a sense of getting united to defeat the designs of all such forces which pose threat to the unity and integrity of the country.
Mahila Morcha Prabhari Suresh Jamwal, Morcha Vice Presidents Shakuntla Gupta and Neena Gupta, Morcha State General Secretaries Veenu Khana, Sanchita Dogra and Anju Dogra, Mahila Morcha National Executive Member Sheela Handoo and Secretary Sushma Gupta were prominent among those who took part in this rally.
