Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, chaired a high level meeting of PDD senior officials and reviewed the working of the department, particularly the measurers being undertaken to ensure regular supply of electricity.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing grave concern over the recent deaths of PDD employees due to electric currents, said that it is the result of lack of coordination in the department. He said that two employees lost their lives in Burn in Jammu few days ago, yesterday also two PDD employees died under same circumstances in Pargwal and even today two more employees got injured at same place. He said that the department should immediately take steps to ensure that such incidents do not repeat. He said that in these months of scorching heat and rise in temperature, the people need regular supply of electricity but due to heavy load, power cuts and imposed but still every effort should be made that people do not suffer for long durations. He also took stock of the progress in implementation of RAPDRP scheme in Urban areas and stressed upon immediate taking up of Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in Rural areas which was started in 2015 by PM Narendra Modi but has failed to see the light in our state.
Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the PDD need to review the power supply as well as the working of infrastructure at all levels and in case of any failure, immediate steps should be taken to provide respite to the consumers. He said that no leniency would be tolerated if the PDD officials adopt delay tactics in mitigating the sufferings of the people. He said that the Govt. of India has been very liberally providing funds for various developmental and welfare schemes in Jammu & Kashmir and more focus is on setting up of power generation projects. He said that the PM himself has assured that funds will not be any obstacle as far as developmental projects are concerned and hence departments like PDD should complete the sanctioned projects on time and submit the utility certificates so that more funds are made available as follow up.
