Stating that the objective of providing financial assistance to the members of the weaker sections is to empower them economically, Vice Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Backward Classes Development Corporation, Balbir Ram Rattan, said that there is need of going for massive awareness among the Target Groups so that the genuinely deserving people can avail the benefits of various welfare schemes.
Balbir Ram Rattan, while interacting with a group of males belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category at Corporation Head Office, Jammu, shared the loan facility meant for the unemployed people of SC, ST, BC, Notified Minorities, Physically Disabled and Safai Karamchari categories and also briefed them about the procedure for applying for loan. He said that although some sections of the society are familiar with the welfare schemes but the population which lives away from main cities and towns need more awareness.
As the majority of the STs are scattered, live in rural and far flung areas, they need more awareness and the Corporation is making sincere efforts to educate the unemployed males and females of this community about the welfare schemes meant for their socio-economic upliftment, Balbir said and added that during the current financial year dozens of vehicles have been provided to the STs besides providing financial assistance in the form of loans, thus helping them in setting up of small earning units as per their comfort and capability.
Those who had interaction with the VC were led by Scheduled Tribe State Advisory Board Member Choudhary Haroon and comprised of Mohammed Sardar from Udhampur and Mohammed Rehaz from Reasi.
