Fallen ratio of girls vis a vis boys (CSR) in 9 critical districts of J&K state and in particular Jammu district with 795 girls against 1000 boys is a result of menace of dowry custom, women insecurity being victims of violence at home and in public further compounded by unpromising criminal justice system that truly proves the dictum ‘justice delayed is justice denied’.
The awareness campaign of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ launched by PM Narendra Modi was taken to border areas of Khour and Pallanwala by team led by former IGP S.S.Bijral, State Convener of Project. Following time tested method of employing youth as ambassadors of the campaign, function was held at Govt. Higher Secondary School Khour with teachers and students of Govt. Degree College Khour also attending.
Bijral said that steep fall in Child Sex Ratio (CSR) has serious implications for the nation & J&K state in particular where 9 districts are declared critical with Jammu and Samba districts carrying sex ratio of 795 and 779 respectively against national ratio of 918 against 1000 boys as per 2011 census. He said the situation demands that ‘girl child’ – future mother is welcomed and cared for health, education and personality development without gender discrimination. He said girl child suppressed in society is bouncing back in every field out beating boys.
Seema Sharma chairperson of Tiny Aspirant Public Hr. Sec. School Jourian lamented that while goddesses were being worshipped by Hindus, the feminine gender was discriminated in society. She blasted oft quoted belief that women, herself is at back of female foeticide. Reciting touching poetry said woman can never opt for death of her own foetus and she is forced to accept that.
Anju Dogra, said that it was security of girl child. menace of dowry and unpromising criminal justice system with fear and respect for law a casualty, are chief reasons for parents opting for male child over girl child.
Awareness function were later held at Jagriti Shiksha Kendre Hr.Sec. School Khour,& Govt. Hr. Sec. School Pallanwala. Girl students who excelled in board exams. from all three institutions were awarded medals. Jagdish Bhagat and Kuldip Singh besides others participated in the campaign.
