Former Cabinet Minister and Member Legislative Council, M K Ajatshatru Singh inaugurated State Powerlifting Championship (M&W) at RKM Gym, here today.
The championship is being organized by the J&K Sports Powerlifting Association for selection of powerlifters for the upcoming National Powerlifting Championship to be held at MAM Stadium (Jammu) from 20th-28th of March, 2017.
Ajatshatru Singh along with his son Rajkumar Ranvijay Singh inaugurated the well attended event amid chanting of vedic mantras by all the participants. The championship is being contested by more than one hundred fifty powerlifters across different weight categories from various districts of the state.
While speaking on the occasion Ajatshatru Singh implored upon the youth to engage themselves in constructive work and fight the menace of drugs and other social evils. He congratulated all the participants for being health freaks and pursuing such fitness sports. He said that the state needs more such events as the youth needs to be engaged in positive pursuits. He also assured the sporting fraternity of his full support in securing jobs and other benefits for all those players who have excelled at state and national levels in various sporting events.
Rajan Jain, General Secretary of the association while honoring the Chief Guest Ajatshatru Singh expressed hope that Ajatshatru Singh will become the voice of young players in the Legislaure by fighting for their cause. Rakesh Jain, President, Narender Singh Manhas, Secretary, Ajay Sharma, Vice President, Rahul Sawhney Joint Secretary, and Preet Dutta, Joint Secretary of the Association were also present on the inaugural ceremony.
