BJP State Spokesperson Prof. Virender Gupta welcomed the announcement made by Union Minister for Surface Transport and Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Gajapati Raju sanctioning new airport for Jammu and National Highway project linking all three region Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The decisions were conveyed to Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh who called upon them in Delhi. Nitin Gadkari agreed to demand raised by Dr. Nirmal Singh for construction of a new National Highway in J&K from Kishtwar to Kargil via Chandanwari and Panikhar. The Union Minister assured that shortly a team of National Highway Authority would be deputed to examine the project of the highway linking Kishtwar with Kargil. The work of Zozila tunnel to provide all weather connection to Ladakh, Jammu- Akhnoor-Poonch, Chenani-Sudh Mahadev, two ring roads proposed for Jammu and Srinagar were also discussed and it was assured that work on these projects would start next year. The Dy. Chief Minister also impressed upon the Union Minister for release of 396 crore to start the work on 3.5 km pilot project of development of River Tawi front on the pattern of the Sabarmati River Front. Other projects of road construction were also taken up with Nitin Gadkari.
Pror. Virender also appreciated the announcement of Union Minister for Civil Aviation for construction of a new Airport of International Standard for Jammu. As conveyed to Dr. Nirmal Singh a team of Civil Aviation Ministry would visit to finalize the land identified by the State Government at Samba for the construction of the Airport. It was also told that in the mean time the work on expansion of the present Airport at Jammu would be taken up speedly.
Prof. Virender said that with the completion of the projects as agreed by the Government of India, Jammu & Kashmir State, in particular Jammu region would find its place among the most developed areas of the country and Jammu city would be recognized as one of the advanced Tourist place.
