Border Belt People Must Avail the Opportunities in Horticulture Sector: Vibodh

Inaugurates Farmers Awareness Camp on Horticulture at Doongi

BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta accompanied by senior party leaders and officials of Horticulture Department today inaugurated a farmers awareness camp at Doongi in Rajouri. The main purpose of this camp was to create awareness among the farming community of the Pir Panjal mountains about the tremendous scope of income generation in the horticulture sector. In the inaugural session of the camp Kirtan Singh Chief Horticulture officer Rajouri gave a detailed overview about various schemes of the Government in the Horticulture sector. He also threw light on the Pecanut village being developed in Doongi.

Addressing the participants of the awareness camp Vibodh highlighted the fact that present Government is serious about exploring all options to ensure the overall development of the people of the hilly areas. He said that for this various schemes and projects are being implemented to transform the condition of the people specially those living in the border belt. While referring to the project to develop a Pecanut village in the Doongi areas with an estimated cost of 6.5 crores, Vibodh said that this was his dream from a long time to get such a project. Once fully implemented this project has the potential to transform the economy of the people of the area. He further added that besides providing direct economic benefit to the people of the area this project will create many employment opportunities for the local youth. He called upon the farming community to be in regular touch with the experts of the horticulture department so that all their scientific inputs are taken to grow various horticulture crops. BJP senior leader Bharat Bushan Vaid also addressed the gathering and congratulated the locals for their keen interest to use horticulture as part of their day to day agricultural practices. He said that climate of Pir Panjal area suits to a large number of high value horticulture crops and once locals are provided the technical know how then they can produce so many types of fruits. This he said will go a long way in boosting the tourism activities in the area as well. Prominent among other who were present on the occasion included Kamal Bakshi, Sanjay Sharma, Rajkumar, Yashpal, Haji Mohd, Pashori Lal and a large number of local farmers who were present in the camp as trainees. Various officers of the horticulture department including Horticulture Development Officers of the area acted as resources persons for this one day awareness camp. Latter chief horticulture officers presented the vote of thanks and thanked MLC Vibodh Gupta for his regular support to the department in ensuring that the benefits of various schemes of the department reach the people for whom these schemes have been designed.
