Conducts tour of the city; directs anti-encroachment drives
Giving a fillip to the activities started by the government for maintaining cleanliness in the State to realize PM Narendra Modi’s dream of Swachh Bharat, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today participated in the cleanliness drive organized by Jammu Development Authority at Bahu Plaza, Jammu.
Legislators, Rajesh Gupta and Vikram Randhawa, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Vice Chairman, Jammu Development Authority, R K Shavan, Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rajesh Sharma besides senior officers of concerned departments also participated in the cleanliness drive.
While addressing the gathering, the Deputy CM stressed on the need to preserve public utilities and urged the public to consider them as their own property. It is the duty of every individual to come forward and play his role in the preservation of public assets, he added.
He directed the VC, JDA to immediately take up the renovation works of JDA complex and directed for maintenance of allotted shops by the traders in the complex which have been lying closed for years altogether.
He directed the officers of JDA and JMC to work on mission mode for developing Jammu as Smart city and equipping the public utilities with ultra-modern facilities.
The Deputy CM also interacted with the morning walkers and gave a patient hearing to their concerns related to sanitation facilities in the complex.
Later, Dr Singh also conducted whirlwind tour of the Jammu city and took stock of sanitation facilities, besides checking the condition of nallahs.
While touring Gandhi Nagar, Panama Chowk, Nai Basti, Jewel Chowk and Shastri Nagar areas, Dr Singh directed the concerned authorities for expediting the sanitation works in the city.
Stressing that the encroachments along the drains is the main cause of water logging and overflowing of rainwater, the Deputy CM directed the concerned officers to launch massive anti-encroachment drive.
He further directed the Chief Engineer R&B, Sudhir Kumar Shah to undertake beautification works in the Bikram Chowk Park and development of green patches around the flyover.
He appealed the general public not to cover nallahs and refrain from throwing garbage in the water bodies and streets.
