GMC Yoga Research Centre starts functioning Govt to open similar centre in Srinagar soon: Bali

Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat called upon the people to make Yoga a part of their life as it has been worldwide acknowledged as best therapy for relieving stress and keep mind and body fit. The Minister was speaking after dedicating the Advance Centre for Yoga Therapy and Research at Government Medical College, Jammu to the public. The Minister said that the newly opened centre will not only provide the infrastructure facility for practising Yoga but also prove useful in generating the research data which can be used to create health policies of the State in future. He said that the Government is planning to start a similar Yoga Centre in Srinagar soon. “A similar centre will be setup at Srinagar to provide the people an opportunity to attend Yoga classes and take the benefit of this unique therapy”, he added. Highlighting the benefits of Yoga in dealing with problems of modern lifestyle, Minister said that it was a landmark achievement in Indian history when United Nations adopted PM Narendra Modi’s proposal for observing International Day for Yoga on June 21, with record support of 177 member countries, out of 193. Asserting that Yoga means unity, he said it is the practice of uniting humans with God. The benefit of Yoga is that it prepares one’s body, mind and soul for the practice of relaxation and meditation which leads to good health, he added. Principal, GMC, Jammu Dr Zahid Gillani, Director Health Services Dr Baljeet Pathania, Medical Superintendents and a galaxy of officers of the Health Department were present on the occasion.
