Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh said the Government has undertaken a massive programme for ensuring conservation of electricity and in this regard the initiative of providing subsidized LED lights to the registered and metered consumers will be undertaken soon. The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a review meeting convened to discuss the measures being undertaken to ensure conservation of energy in the State. Commissioner Secretary Power Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting. The Deputy Chief Minister said the Government would be providing five LED bulbs to the registered and metered consumers at a subsidized rate of Rs 20 each. He said by promoting the use of LED lights, the Government would be saving enormous amount of electricity. He said in the first phase the Government would distribute 4 lakh LED bulbs across the State, 2 lakh in Jammu and equal number in Kashmir. He said the initiative has been undertaken under the Ujjaval India Initiative and would be implemented by ESL India though local CSC/Khidmat Centres across the State. He said that the Government is also contemplating to replace the street lights with energy efficient LED lights across the State in major cities and towns. He said the step would also augment the energy conservation and its proper utilization.
