India’s futuristic vision rests on engineers’ shoulders: Dr Nirmal Singh

Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh attends 50th Engineers’ Day, pays tributes to Sir M Visvesvaraya
Calling engineers as an interface between science and society, Dr Nirmal Singh referred to them as backbone of development and progress.
The Deputy Chief Minister said this during a function to mark the celebration of 50th Engineers’ day on the theme “Role of Engineers in developing India”. This day is being celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
The function was organized by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat.
Minister of State for Public Works (R&B) and Revenue, Sunil Kumar Sharma, besides large number of engineers from various departments and organizations were also present on the occasion.
Deputy CM said that India has futuristic vision in the areas of space research, defense, rural development, renewable energies, agriculture, information and communication technology and education which rests on the shoulders of engineers who are working tirelessly to bring this vision in to reality.
He also recalled the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like austerity, integrity, competence and discipline.
Addressing the gathering, MoS, Sunil Sharma said that engineering needs to be understood in the context of its role in society, within an institution and ultimately within society.
He called upon the engineers to continue applying their technical skills to serve our nation, contributing towards evolution of world-class engineering in the country.
Rich Tributes were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Er. Supinder Jeet Singh Sodhi, AMIE; Regional Head (North), Himachal Futuristic Communication Ltd.
Further, on this occasion Er. D. S. Pawar, FIE was honoured with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). He was presented with Gold Medallions as a mark of respect.
The Deputy Chief Minister also presented R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er. Supinder Jeet Singh Sodhi, AMIE for presenting the Best Technical Paper during the year 2016 – 2017 and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE for presenting 2nd best technical paper during the year 2016 – 2017 respectively.
Er. S. C. Thukral, FIE; Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Er. K.R Suri, FIE; Er. Ashok Kumar Sharma, MIE; Er. Sewa Ram, MIE; Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma,MIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; Er. Supinder Jeet Singh,AMIE; Er. Rajesh Kumar Angural & Er. Akash Dusgotra,AMIE were honored with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2016 2017.
Later, first issue of 15th Volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the dignitaries on the occasion.
