Speaker J&K Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta today visited the flood prone areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency and inspected the works for upgradation of drainage network.
Accompanied by the SDM South, Sonu Pargal, SP Traffic, Rohit Baskotra, Xen UEED, Rajan Sharma, Xen JMC, S.K Wali, AEE UEED, Vijay Singh Manhas, DSP Traffic, Daljeet Singh, he thoroughly inspected the areas where drainage network requires improvement.
He visited Nai Basti, Digiana, Satwari, Gandhi Nagar, Gadhi Garh, Chowadi, Sainik Colony, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Rani Bagh near Airport, Shastri Nagar, Channi Rama and other areas of the constituency.
The Speaker interacted with people at these places and asked for their views in addition to requirement of the area; so that a comprehensive and long term solution can be made to prevent the floods in future.
Informing the people, he said that projects worth Rs 48 cr under various schemes like “AMRUT” have been started in the constituency to prevent flood like situation in future and the damage to the private and public property.
He said that the Gandhi Nagar can also be termed as “Financial Constituency of the region”; as it is the headquarter for every mode of transport like Airport, Railway Station, ISBT and also the Regional Transport Office, Regional Passport Office, Headquarters of RBI, SBI & JKB; so it needs special attention.
The Speaker directed the officers of UEED and JMC to fasttrack the construction of deep drains at Digiana, Nai Basti, Chowadi and Sainik Colony and prepare a holistic drainage plan for the Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Trikuta Nagar to channelize the flow of water in the area.
Stressing for strengthening the drainage network in the constituency, he informed that an additional amount of Rs 11 cr have been sanctioned for improving the drainage system in Gandhi Nagar constituency and the work will start with in a month.
