First time in history of country a welfare scheme benefitting crores of women belonging to poorest households
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is an ambitious social welfare scheme of Narendra Modi Government under which the government aims to provide LPG connections to BPL households in the country. The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in the rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Ujjwala Yojana is aimed at providing 5 Crore LPG connections in the name of women in BPL (Below Poverty Line) households across the country. This was stated by BJP District Jammu Women Wing President, Rekha Mahajan while speaking in a programme organized by BJP Mahila Morcha District Vice President Inderjeet Kour, to highlights the significance of Ujjwala Yojana at Digiana today. Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include District President Baldev Billoria,General Secretary Vinay Gupta,Senior BJP Leaders Raj Rani Jamwal, Neeru Anand BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Savita Anand, Shailja Gupta,Kiran Aggarwal, Pinki Bala,Veena Bakshi,Neelam Mahajan,Harmeet Jolly,Surinder Kour beside others.
Speaking on the occasion, District President Baldev Billoria said that under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” the change has been witnessed in lives of countless girl child and women. The pet project launched by Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi “Beti bachao beti Padhao” (BBBP) Yojana (save daughter, educate daughter) to save and empower the girl child is making waves all over the nation. The associated problems in bringing up the girl child, her marriage expenses, Dowry system and discrimination in the society have to be talked out more often so that the citizens, showcase more responsible behaviour or even out of shame think twice before indulging themselves in such crimes or acts of violence, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Mahajan said that the scheme is aimed at empowering women and protecting their health, reducing the serious health hazards associated with cooking based on fossil fuel, reducing the number of deaths in India due to unclean cooking fuel. Preventing young children from significant number of acute respiratory illnesses caused due to indoor air pollution by burning the fossil fuel.The eligible women candidates from BPL families can apply for the scheme by filling up the Ujjwala Yojana KYC application form (in prescribed format).The interested candidates require to fill the 2 page application form and attach required documents along with the form. The basic details such as Name, Contact details, Jan Dhan / Bank account number, Aadhar card number etc are required to fill in the application form. The applicants also need to mention their requirement of cylinder type i.e. 14.2KG or 5KG, she added.
The Scheme provides a financial support of Rs 1600 for each LPG connection to the BPL households. This is the first time in the history of the country that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas would implement a welfare scheme benefitting crores of women belonging to the poorest households, she maintained. Providing LPG connections to BPL households will ensure universal coverage of cooking gas in the country. This measure will empower women and protect their health. It will reduce drudgery and the time spent on cooking. It will also provide employment for rural youth in the supply chain of cooking gas, she remarked. On this occasion school items were also distributed among financially weak students.
