Social activist Veena Gupta along with dozens of men and women joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of party general secretary (Org) Ashok Kaul at Srinagar on Thursday.
Dozens of well wishers of Veena Gupta throng to the Hotel Silver Star, Lasjan to show their support at the time of her joining.
Mrs Gupta said she was impressed by the party functioning in the state by serving the general public, which compelled her to join the party. “My aim is serving the common people, and BJP is the better platform to fulfill my dream, where I can extended my cause to the down trodden,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, party general secretary (Org) Ashok Kaul said today people from Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities joined the party in a single function here, which speaks about the broad vision of party leaders and party’s commitment to serve the general public.
“You can see people belonging to Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities joining the party for a cause- which is serving the society,” Kaul said, adding, party leaders are in touch with gross root level workers to listen to their grievances.
“We are here to serve general public not rule them,” Kaul said.
Party MLC, Sofi Yousuf on the occasion said people in Kashmir have embraced the party, because of its clear goal of development, prosperity of common people and good governance. “BJP is the world’s largest party, which has spread its fan presence across the continents,” he said.
Party state vice president, Dr Darakshan Andrabi said people in Kashmir have accepted BJP, which is why scores of women join the party every passing day.
The joining function was organized by party District President Srinagar, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat.
Present on the occasion were: Altaf Tahkur- Media Incharge Kashmir, Arif Raja- district general secretary Srinagar, Ashok Butt- district vice- president and Ghulam Hassan- constituency president Sonwar.
Meanwhile, early in the morning a joining function was organized by Ashok Butt- district vice- president Srinagar, in which dozens of people including social activists and workers of other parties joined the BJP.
Prominent faces including Manzoor Ahmad from Congress; Sajad Khan, an Artist and Pervaiz Ahmad.
