Observing nationwide recognition received by Indian Women Cricket Team in World Cup 2017, and its positive effect in boosting national Child Sex Ratio, S.S. Bijral, State Convener ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ pleaded for well chartered sports schedule for girls in J&K to build national and international level sports women.
Bijral, former IGP, said the spirited response India Women Cricket team received for their historical performance in World Cricket Cup, especially from PM Narinder Modi and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu through cash reward and out of turn promotions, it shall help society rethink their attitude towards girl child for whom great naturalist George Washington Carver said, “What we call weed is a flower in disguise. If weed is that, let’s understand woman.” Its time he said society changes its mindset about girl child potentials.
Referring to misplaced tag of ‘weaker sex’, Bijral questioned its validity. He said comments of Harmanpreet Kaur, first woman cricketer earning birth in World Big Bash League, about sixes hit in her spirited 171 against Australia, where she said she learnt aggressive game skill in her formative years playing cricket with boys, point out to the real culprit.
Lamenting society attitude holding no bars for growth of boys, but holds all bars for girls, Bijral questioned low expectations from girl child reared right after birth on doubtful, hopeless mindset full of negativity. Asserting this attitude applied on healthy male would render him imbecile sans confidence, he pleaded for attitude ‘We Believe in Them’, stressing girls don’t have within God weaker and lesser compared to boys.
For boosting critical Child Sex Ratio in 15 J&K districts of total 22, the senior cop strongly proposed for state sports authorities for special programmed attention towards team games of girls for their national and global exposure.
