A delegation of student representatives comprises of Executive Members of ALSAJ and ALSWAJ led by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal Conucillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh call on Nayeema Ahmed Mehjoorji, Chairman, State Commission for Women, Jammu & Kashir and sought the attention of the Commission towards the case of sexual harassment at Govt. Medical College Jammu, where a Professor has allegedly sexually harassed a medical college student. The delegates appealed for the intervention of State Commission for Women to ensure that this is properly investigated and accused is punished according to law. Delegates also raised the issue of few groups in Jammu trying to protect the culprit and said that they will not tolerate shielding of the accused from any one.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chairman, SCW, J&K seeking through and proper investigation and fair trial of the case within a definite period of time without further delay followed by immediate and strict action against the accused. Further the memorandum appeal for the active intervention of J&K Commission for Women for immediate and swift action to be taken against the accused, as the proceedings in this case seems delayed. “Accused should be terminated unconditionally from his position. His attachment to any services under the Government of J&K should be revoked immediately, as the molester is presently attached to the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu”, the memorandum reads. The Chairman, SCW, J&K assured the delegates that law will take its course and they will not allow anyone to influence with the case in favor of the accused. In the meeting the Chairman, SCW, J&K directly called up the Principle GMC and enquired about the case and in that telephone conversation Principal GMC informed the chairperson about the some fake member of women commission visiting the campus. On this she assured the delegates that this will be investigated properly and those who are dubbing as the member of women commission will not be spared.
The memorandum further highlights the public perception of Dr. Bhupesh Khajuria being a habitual molester as reported in the media, and demanded that he should be given severe punishment, so that future crime against women can be checked. On this she assured the delegates that any criminal will not get way with such heinous crime and further said that she will personally meet Health Minister regarding this issue.
Secondly the memorandum appeals for the favorable recommendation of the Commission for setting up of police cell and helpline no to handle the case against Ladakhi Student especially for girls studentssince majority of the students from Ladakh especially girls students studying here in Jammu on the line of the provision for the Northeastern Students in Delhi. On this Chairman, SCW, J&K said that they are already thinking of establishing such cell in Jammu and they will be setting such cell soon.
Thirdly the delegation demanded for induction of a member from Ladakh region in the J&K State Commission for Women as of now there is no member from Ladakh region means injustice with the women population of Ladakh the third region of Jammu & Kashmir State.
At last the memorandum assured for their continue fights till justice is delivered to the victim in particular and truth is prevail on earth in general. “Justice delayed is Justice denied”, memorandum added.
