Participating in the calling attention motion in the upper house today, BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta expressed his serious concern over the deteriorating condition of Sanskrit language in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the way the Sanskrit language is being treated in J&K the day is not far off when this language will go extinct like any other endangered bird or a mammal. He highlighted the fact that currently there is hardly any initiative to promote this language in Jammu region in general and Rajouri district in particular. Giving facts and figures in support of his arguments Vibodh informed the house that currently the post of lecturer Sanskrit is Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Rajouri is lying vacant. The severity of the situation can also be judged from the fact that at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School in Rajouri, a Arabic Lecturer has been adjusted and she is teaching Sanskrit to the students. Due to this the number of students opting for Sanskrit language is declining day by day. He further added that Sanskrit language should never be attached with any religion but this is our ancient heritage which must be preserved at all costs. This is the world number one ancient language and all the valuable ancient literature is in Sanskrit. He said that we can not become a modern progressive society if we forget our culture and our heritage. The languages like Sanskrit has tremendous potential to contribute towards the development of modern society. Therefore all efforts must be made to ensure that this language does not go extinct from J&K. He said that J&K being a Muslim majority state has much more responsibility to take additional efforts to promote this language. This he said will ensure the preservation of our valuable ancient scientific literature and modern society can made best use of such a literature. Moreover, this can act as a torch for leading present society to progress. Replying to the motion Hon’ble Education Minister, Govt. of J&K assured the house that Government is making all efforts to promote Sanskrit language in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. He further added that all the vacant posts of lecturers Sanskrit will be advertised soon.
