Members of Sikh community of state BJP under chairmanship of S.S. Bijral IGP (Rtd), state spokesperson in a meeting resolved to make an appeal to Home Minister of India in the chilling murder of a Sikh youth, a student, Gurpreet Singh on September 17, 2017 night for his intervention and justice as it was a murder of sorts when he was killed without provocation as if killing is trifle to go by.
Accused, Rohit Krishna Mahanta, son of a doctor, is a practicing lawyer, a standing Counsel of Assam government. As per media reports, smoking cigarette in public, the accused with intentions to hurt blew cigarette smoke on face of deceased and his accomplice. On victims objecting to his offensive smoking, he said ‘had you been in Assam he would have killed you without any one having a whiff of it. Minutes later he executed his threat ramming his fast driven car into duo’s motor bike.
Gurpreet Singh (21), the deceased, and Maninder Singh (22) from Bathinda happened to be Delhi School of Photography students undergoing one year photography course. Maninder Singh informed police after finishing their job of documenting life of distant patients and their attendants on the foot path, they accessed an eatery near AIMS to have prathas. At the eatery accused Rohit Krishna Mahanta, blew his cigarette smoke at them. Sensing trouble the duo left the place. Having gone 500 meters, accused rammed his fast driven car into their bike from behind severely damaging the cab and auto rickshaw ahead of them. The deceased succumbed to his injuries in AIIMS Trauma Centre after struggling for three days.
Those attending meeting hoped HM with a direction to Delhi police have a fair and speedy investigation conducted applying stringent provisions for exemplary punishment. Those prominently attended included Virenderjit Singh Incharge All Cells, Darshan Singh State Convener Transport Cell, State Gen Secy Gurdial Singh Bali, Randhir Singh Zila President, Charan Singh Zila Vice President from Minority Morcha and Harpal Singh Bali President ward no. 57.
