On the 69th Death Anniversary of First Recipient of ParamVeer Chakra Major Som Nath Sharma a Programme (Ek Deepak Saheedon Ke Naam) organised by BJP Distt. Jammu West at Main Gate of G.G.M Sceince college Jmu.
A programme was led by BJP State President & MLA Sat Sharma (CA), along with MLC Vibodh Gupta and Distt. President Ayodhya Gupta .
Sat Sharma, on this occasion, said that remembering the supreme sacrifice of Major Somnath Sharma, he said that he along with his men fought with exemplary courage and set an example of courage and qualities seldom equaled in the history of the Indian Army.
Saluting the determination, perseverance & spirit of Major Somnath Sharma, sat said that he upheld the highest traditions of valour and courage of Indian Army.
Vibodh said Major Somnath Sharma was the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military honour. He was awarded the medal posthumously for his bravery in the Kashmir operations in November 1947.
Ayodhya said that district Jammu west organised different programmes in memory of great patriots from October 24 to November 3.he also said Major Somnath Sharma laid down his life while evicting Pakistani raiders from Srinagar Airport during the war with Pakistan in 1947-48 in Kashmir. He belonged to the 4th Kumaon Regiment of Indian Army.
Munish Sharma, Sanjay Baru, Jugal Kishore Gupta, ND Rajwal, Prem Gupta, Sanjeev Sharma ,Vinod Gupta Balwan Singh Sat Pal Karlupia Jeet Angral, Akshay Sharma, Puneet Mahajan, Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Ravish Mengi, Asha Kumari, Neelam Nargotra, Raj Kumar, Kuldeep Kaushar Chand Suresh Shiv Charan Sharma Rajinder Verma Swarn Ashish Sharma and other were present on the occasion.
