To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti and 2nd anniversary of the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today launched Cleanliness Drive in Gandhi Nagar.
The motive of the drive was to aware the general masses about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings to make the city clean and green.
Dr Singh administered oath to the people present and appealed for their active participation in the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission. He also urged them to devote atleast 100 hours in a year for achieving the goal of ‘’Clean India Mission’’.
‘’It was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to see India a clean nation and now our Prime Minister took the initiative of making the Swachh Bharat Mission a mass movement’’, he said adding that it is now our responsibility to carry forward the mission.
Deputy Chief Minister appealed the people to avoid the use of polythene bags and to install dustbins in their areas for maintaining proper sanitation. He also asked them to aware others and involve them in the drive for making the Clean India Mission successful.
The Swachh Bharat Week which is being celebrated from September 25 to October 2 under which drives and various programmes were organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation at various places in the city.
Members of Apsra Road Traders Association and shopkeepers also participated in the drive.
Among others, Commissioner JMC Manmohan Singh, Joint Commissioner JMC R S Jamwal, senior officers of JMC, staffs of health and sanitation wing of JMC and residents were present on the occasion.
