Jammu district nationally listed as ‘critical district’ with fallen Child Sex Ratio, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign under its convener S. S. Bijral Rtd IGP focussed its attention on Akhnoor highlighting that insecurity of girl child, at home and in society too contributes to female foeticide.
When the average national CSR is 918 (2011 census), Jammu district has average CSR as 795 against 1000 boys. In the day long drive when youth of educational institutions of Kendriya Vidyalaya no. 2; Govt Girls Higher Secondary School; Govt Higher Sec. School Sohal were addressed, one after the other, schools of Govt. Middle School Sohal; New Oriental High School; Vaishnavi Vidyalaya also let their students participate in this campaign at Govt Higher Sec. School Sohal.
S.S.Bijral state Convener explained at length importance of BBBP. He as gathered by him in the course of the drive, said that insecurity of girl child both at home and in society significantly contributes to female foeticide. Parents mental worry, he said, stays about her safety and security until her marriage. The law enforcement being weak and justice delivery painfully very delayed, the fear of law is near vanished from criminals mind as testified by increasing crime. He said foreign countries have issued advisories to their women travelers against visiting India.
Kamal Choudhary state committee member called upon girl students to get adequately educated to be self reliant. He called upon boys to resolve not to accept dowry in marriage when highly educated girl agreeing to marry compensates far more compared to dowry.
One Kajal Sharma 11th class student of G.G. Hr. Secondary School recited a self composed poem regarding female foeticide. Appreciating her emotions supporting the campaign theme,S.S.Bijral IGP (Rtd) gave her a cash prize of Rs 500 and a medal. The girls who scored high merit in their last board exam were awarded medals as token of recognition and morale booster.
