Undergoing extensive tour of Gandhi Nagar constituency, Speaker J&K, Legislative Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta visited Marble Market, Greater Jammu, Channi Himmat, Belicharana, Bhathindi and Sainik Colony and reviewed the progress of development works of Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC), PWD(R&B), PHE, PDD, IRCON and ERA.
He was accompanied by the senior officers along with field staff of these departments; he thoroughly inspected and reviewed the Physical and financial achievements of the works being carried out by these departments.
While inspecting the work of Jammu Airport expansion, he directed the Irrigation & Flood control (I&FC) department to expedite the work for realignment of Irrigation canal and issued instructions to PWD(R&B) and PDD to shift the utilities for facilitating the expansion of the Airport.
He was informed that the realignment of Irrigation canal will be completed by December 2016. The project will be executed at a cost of Rs. 59.80 crore by I&FC department. Similarly, the work on alternate Road from Highway to Nikki Tawi via Belicharana is being carried out at a cost of Rs. 22 crore.
During inspection of the blacktopping works undertaken by the PWD(R&B), Gupta directed the officers of the departments to finish the Macadamization of the already sanctioned road length before the onset of rainy season without compromising with the quality and also initiate the process of tendering of works to be taken up during the financial year 2016-17.
The Speaker was apprised by the officers of the ERA about the broad contours of the Bikram Chowk Flyover being constructed at a cost of 72 crore funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which is due for completion by December 2016.
Taking review of the installation of new HT/LT cables along with poles and transformers under R-APDRP scheme, he visited various sites and took firsthand appraisal of the work. He was informed by the officers of IRCON and engineers of PDD that though the scheduled date for completing this project was missed but maximum work have been completed and it will be completed by the end of this year.
Underscoring the need to provide clean drinking water to the people, Gupta inspected and reviewed the project of laying new water pipelines, construction of new Overhead Water Tanks (OHT’s) and tubewells at Sainik colony, Bhathindi and Channi Himmat and sought the details about the progress of these projects from the concerned officers.
He directed the officers of PDD and PHE to complete these works well in time and submit the status report of these projects in his office within two days, he warned that a strict action will be taken against the officers responsible for adopting dilly dallying approach in the implementation of development schemes.
