Kavinder visits flood prone areas amid heavy rains:

Speaker J&K Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta visited various areas of Gandhi Nagar and took stock of the situation.
Accompanied by the officers of JMC, Revenue, I&FC, UEED, ERA and social activists along with the prominent citizens, he extensively toured Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Sanjay Nagar and Channi Himmat.
The Speaker visited the flood prone areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency and interacted with the locals, enquired about the present ground situation as these areas have suffered losses in the last one decade and more.
Locals greeted and welcomed the Speaker with open arms as the works which were initiated by him have yielded results now and the people residing in these areas are feeling safe this time as the rain water didn’t overflowed from nallahs and neither entered their homes despite such continuous and heavy rains going on since last night.
While interacting with the locals, the Speaker said that the days of corruption and Nepotism are over now and the present government is committed to work for the welfare of the people.
Assuring them, he said that the left over works for dismantling of slabs and removal of encroachments will be completed very soon.
He added that the project for drainage system of the Jammu city have been prepared by the UEED and all the nallahs leading to the river Tawi will be diverted to a new deep drain, the construction of which will start soon.
Moreover the government is going to construct a sewerage treatment plant which will not only help in keeping the river clean but will also prevent any flood like situation in the future, he said.
Lauding the work done by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and their staff he said, the dedication and hard work of the sanitation and transport wing of JMC is commendable and it is their effort that the de silting of nallahs have been done well in time which prevented the flood water from entering the homes of the people.
He directed the UEED and ERA to complete their remaining works well in time and see that they are well maintained in the future, the speaker asked the revenue department to work in coordination with these departments so that they don’t face any hurdle in the execution of the development works.
