Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Priya Sethi visited the Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu and reviewed the progress on the ongoing counseling sessions being held there for Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS). During the visit, the Minister was informed that there has been a tremendous response at the sessions. As on 4th day, over one thousand students have been allotted colleges as per their chosen field of study and many more students will be covered over the next days. The Minister said that with the increase in number of available seats by AICTE from 2 to 10 in multiple colleges across India, under PMSSS, the meritorious students will get an opportunity to go forward with their studies without being held back by lack of economic resources. “PMSSS improves the chances for students hailing from J&K to get into prestigious national level institutes like Lady Hardinge Medical College, SRCC and many others despite stiff competitions” she added. The Minister said that various awareness camps were organised in different educational institutions at district levels to educate the students to come forward and avail the benefits of PMSSS and the campaign was very successful with students from far reaches coming forward and participating. During the visit, Secretary Higher Education Department, Hemant Kumar Sharma, Director AICTE Delhi, Dr S K Goyal, Deputy Director AICTE Anand Sharma, Officer Special Secretary Higher Education Department Nitu Gupta, ADDC Jammu Anuradha Gupta, Principal GGM Science College Ajit Angral, Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar Kiran Bakshi and senior officers of various departments were also present.
