Opening of Chenani-Nashri Tunnel
Terming Asia’s longest bidirectional Rs 2519 Crore Chenani-Nashri tunnel as ‘lifeline’ of Jammu and Kashmir State’s surface transport network that will not only boost economy but also give a fillip to tourism and help conserve state’s ecology, Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks Priya Sethi and State vice-President Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yudhvir Sethi today urged people to come and visit the site on April 2, 2017 and stand witness to historic event when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate this engineering marvel to public.
While holding an interaction with common public as well as party functionaries in Jammu East constituency, Priya Sethi and Yudhvir Sethi apprised people about this engineering marvel and said that its going to part of mega development projects launched by both Central as well as State government in Jammu and Kashmir State. The tunnel, BJP leaders said will reduce time travel by two hours, help conserves forests, save fuel and will be an all weather route for the benefit of trade and travel purposes.
Priya Sethi and Yudhvir Sethi added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special place in his heart for people of Jammu and Kashmir and this was the reason central government was spending liberally in our state. They said that once this tunnel is thrown open to public the country will save fuel to the tune of Rs 27 lakhs per day. Spelling out the features of Chenani-Nashri tunnel, they said that its protected by world class security system, is 9.35 Kms having parallel escape tunnel, cross passage and an integrated traffic contol system for the safety of users.
Urging people to come and join this even, Yudhvir Sethi and Priya Sethi said that those who will be present on the occasion will be part of history in making. The tunnel ventilation system, evacuative broadcast system, entrance detection control system, electric fire signalling system, video surveillance, wireless communication system and SOS call boxes at every 150 m are all worth an experience that are going to ensure utmost safety of people and put Jammu and Kashmir State on world tourism map as well.
Priya Sethi in her address said that once the tunnel is thrown open, ecology of places like Patnitop, Kud and Batote will get a fillip. The nature which until now was under constant threat will get rejuvenated. She extended her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dedicating this tunnel to public and added that these projects are all in series of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission, Soil Health Card Scheme, Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, A Dedicated TV Channel ‘Kisan TV’ for the Farmers: Kisan TV, Multi Skill Programme – Skill India, Kisan Vikas Patra (Kvp) Re-Introduced, Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission ‘Namami Gange’, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana, Digital India Programme, Housing For All By 2022, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and Atal Pension Yojna which are aimed at making a strong India.
Yudhvir Sethi in his address said that both state as well Centre are commitment towards ensuring socio-economic development of the state for which massive funds are being released to build infrastructure. Once this tunnel is thrown open to public work on other remaining tunnels in Kashmir Region and Ladakh will be taken up on war footings to give J&K State an all weather connectivity.
Presently, massive tourism related projects are going on in Jammu City that include multi-tier parking at Jammu Bus Stand, City Chowk and behind Super Bazar, Artificial Lake project, Maharaja Hari Singh Park and three Ropeway Projects besides government is making all out efforts to development Suchetgarh as Border Tourism Destination. Urging people to extend their support to the coalition government, both BJP leaders asserted that this is an era of development, peace, accountability and transparency that’s going to change the fate of people of all three regions of the state in next one decade.
