MLA Jammu east and Chief Whip Rajesh Gupta asked the question regarding the steps taken by the Government to overcome the problem of traffic congestion especially in the old cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
To this the minister incharge for Housing and urban development Deputy CM Dr Nirmal Singh Ji replied that the govt is managing to provide suitable parking spaces to the people by way of Municipal Corporations at Jammu/Srinagar and also by J&K Development Authorities at Jammu and Srinagar.
JMC has proposed a parking at Panjtirthi for 240 vehicles at a cost of rupees 28 crores.
Another parking project at Peerkho for 150 cars near Baba Lal Ji Temple Circular Road is also proposed at a cost of rupees 15 crores.
Another parking project is being envisaged at near Mubarak Mandi at a cost of rupees 12.50 lakhs.
The minister also replied that a multi tier parking is being constructed at Bus Stand at a cost of rupees 202 crores that would have a capacity for 1312 cars and 177 scooters.
The minister also replied that ERA is also constructing a multi level parking at City Chowk for 350 cars.
Minister also said that JDA has also developed surface level parking at Maharaja Hair Singh Park for 233 cars.
Minister also said that Srinagar Municipality is managing 10 parking spaces most of which are outsourced.ERA is also constructing a multi level parking at Old KMD adda.
Minister also said that Srinagar Municipal Corporation is developing two multi level parking projects at Shaikh Bagh and Old State Motor Garage at Lal Chowk at a cost of rupees 25 and 30 crores respectively.
Rajesh Gupta also asked whether it is a fact that thousands of vehicles are parked on the roads in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar.To this the minister replied in the affirmative.
Rajesh Gupta also asked the question as to the reasons for not taking up the execution of flyover especially from KC Chowk to Janipur and Jewel Chowk to Talab Talab Tiloo.
The minister said that these flyovers were never in the scope of ADB funded projects.
However,the project”Widening of BC road to 8 lane specification/construction of flyover ” being of important nature for effective traffic management of Jammu city shall be projected for funding under new loan subject to the approval of governing body of ERA and the lending agency.
