BJP State Spokesperson Prof. Varinder Gupta hailed the decision of Supreme Court of India against ‘Triple Talaq’ practice providing among the Muslim Community of India while terming it as unconstitutional, inhuman and discriminatory against the women, the majority judgement banned the 1400 years practice of ‘Triple Talaq’ among Muslims and opined that the Holy Quran attributes sanctity and permanence to matrimony whereas ‘Triple Taliq’ closes the doors of reconciliation as such it violates the Islamic law Shariat.
Prof. Varinder Gupta said that the Supreme Court judgement is an historical judgement. This has laid the foundation that fundamental rights of all sections of society need to be protected and there can be no compromise on equality and personal dignity of an individual vis-a-vis the religion and wrongful practices. He said that Muslim women were being exploited in the name of ‘Triple Talaq’ and feel insecure about their married life throughout their life. They were being humiliated and subjected to undignified treatment and being tortured. The ‘Triple Talaq’ has made Muslim women to lose their dignity and honour and they were being treated as a substance of amusement and can be thrown out by her male partner whenever he desires so. Those victim of ‘Triple Talaq’ have borne the agony and faced sufferings and humiliations throughout their life.
The Spokesperson said that this cannot be seen as an isolated decision, it has opened the other doors for change in our discriminatory system and may affect the continuation of Article 35A and may pave way for common civil code.
No doubt judgement of the Supreme Court needs to be appreciated but credit for the judgement goes to the awakened Muslim womenfolk who launched detrimental crusade against the sinful practice of ‘Triple Talaq’ and to the media that relentlessly campaigned for their cause. The NDA government at the centre, particularly the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed his solid determination to protect that honour and dignity of the Muslim women and promised to provide justice to them by getting banned the ‘Triple Talaq’ custom without yielding to orthodox clergymen of Muslim community and without appeasing the male folk of the community. He added that infact Modi inspired deserted Muslim women and other and infused the spirit of fighting against this evil that has snatched their peace and certainty in their life.
