Demands Constitution of Minority Commission in J&K
BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta today very strongly raised the issue of minority status for the Hindus of J&K in the upper house. During the proceedings of the house Vibodh asked the information related to the current population status of various communities in the state. He demanded information on which community in the state of Jammu & Kashmir is a minority. To this MLC was informed that at present in the state of Jammu & Kashmir the total percentage of Muslim population is 68.31% and Hindus constitute about 31%. Whereas the Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains constitute 1.87%, 0.28%, 0.90% and 0.02% of the total population respectively. MLC was further informed that as per the national minorities data Muslims fall under the minority status. Reacting to this MLC Vibodh said that as per these figures within the state of J&K Hindus should also be given the minority status. He said that based on these facts and figures it is important that justice should be provided to all the communities of the state and called for bringing whole population of J&K state under minority status. This he said will ensure equitable distribution of various central and state schemes being implemented for the welfare of minorities.
Making further interventions on the subject Vibodh asked weather there is any minority commission in the state and accordingly house was informed that currently there is no minority commission in the state. On this Vibodh demanded that a minority commission in the state of Jammu & Kashmir should immediately be constituted. Latter other members of the house namely Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Ramesh Arora and Ajatshatru Singh also supported MLC Vibodh and demanded a debate in the house on such a important issue. Not satisfied with the response MLC Vibodh Gupta walked out of the house in protest for not getting attention of the house towards such a issue which it deserves.
