Bali for strict vigil to curb adulteration

Stressing upon the officers of Drug and Food Control Organization to enhance vigil to curb adulteration of milk and milk products, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat said that concerted efforts should be made to safeguard the consumer rights. The Minister was speaking at a meeting convened to review the functioning of the organization here today. Minister of State for Health & Medical Education Asiea Naqash was also present in the meeting. Secretary Health & Medical Education M K Bhandari, Controller Drugs and Food Lotika Khajuria, Additional Secretary Health & Medical Education, K S Chib, Assistant Controller Drugs and Foods and all ADCs, FSOs of Jammu Division were present in the meeting. The Minister asked the Drugs and Food Organization for launching a special drive from April 25 to check adulteration of milk and milk products. He asked the concerned for keeping a strict vigil to check the quality of khoya available in the market and directed for on spot tests to check quality of Khoya. Mr. Bali asked the concerned officers to sensitize the food business operators about the food safety guidelines and importance of hygiene. He impressed upon the concerned officers to strengthen existing food and drug testing labs to check their quality and safeguard the consumer interest. He further directed to strengthen the enforcement wings for proper vigil besides undertaking adequate Information Education Communication activities to generate mass awareness. The Minister stressed on the need for ensuring complete transparency, accountability at all levels to improve work culture in the organization. He directed the concerned authorities to focus on the welfare of the people and protect the right of consumers by checking unfair trade practices.
