BJP State Spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta called upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to ensure justice to the people of Jammu region in the matter of development, employment in state services while looking at the tax collected from Jammu region in the last three years which is more than three times of what the Kashmir region has generated, as per the data placed on the table of the state assembly. He said that this is not merely because of the disturbed conditions that prevailed in the current financial year. He added that Jammu had been contributing about seventy percent to the state revenue as against thirty percent contribution of Kashmir region for the last so many years since Jammu & Kashmir acceded to Indian Union. He regretted that Jammu region shared merely 30% of the State as well as that of the Centre funds marked for the development of the state. He said that Jammu region also suffered discrimination in sharing the political power, and in its representation in the state legislature, Lok Sabha and in the state services. He remarked that it is an appropriate time to address the grievances of the people of Jammu region and provide them justice in all spheres, when we have a state government that is committed for equitable development of all the three regions. The Spokesperson expressed his anguish on the fact that the expectations of the people of Jammu region get belied when they observe acute discrimination in the selections made against the posts in different departments, be that be education, medical, engineering, police and in general line services.
Prof. Virender Gupta said that recently about 4000 SPOs were recruited for Kashmir valley, but one finds none for Jammu region. He appealed to the Chief Minister to set the things right and meet the expectations of the people of Jammu region.
