J&K BJP spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta strongly condemned the brutal police action against the non local students studying in NIT Srinagar who were protesting and demanding security in the campus as they were feeling insecure due to the incident that happened on Friday last, when campus witnessed clashes between local and non-local students over India’s defeat in the semi-final T20 cricket tournament. The spokesperson expressed his great anguish on the report that the police had mercilessly beaten the students inside the campus and did not spare even those in the hostels and the girls as a result of this a good number of students sustained injuries and some them hospitalized and he said that it irony that the students who were demanding their safety and security from the law and order authorities were treated inhumanly by the same authorities, who are custodian of maintain peace and tranquillity.
Prof. Virender appreciated the sensitivity shown by the Deputy Chief Minister of the State and the Union Home Minister on the issue. He demanded for the stern action against those officers of the NIT and the police personnel who acted prejudicially and were responsible for aggravating the situation. Prof Gupta asked the police as well as authorities of the NIT, Srinagar that why no action was taken against the students who raised anti-India and Pro-Pak slogans on the last Thursday and Friday when India got defeated in the T20 tournament.
